Cheek Implant (Malar Augmentation)

In people who have little development of the zygomatic bone (cheek), you may see an underdeveloped cheekbone which may give the appearance of a strengthen face. The surgery that corrects this defect consists in increasing the malar. It uses a silastic implant, which is placed through a small incision in the lower eyelid which highlights the contours of the cheekbone. It is an ambulatory surgery that can be performed under local anesthesia and sedation, and produces swelling of the lower eyelid that usually gives away in 7 days.
